Week 3 - STAY IN TOUCH

Day 6 : Staying In Touch With Your Mentor - Paul And Timothy

Acts 16:1-3
1 Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.
2 He was well spoken of by the brothers at Lystra and Iconium.
3. Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

Paul heard the good report about Timothy & he wanted him to accompany him .This was the beginning of the discipling relationship between Paul & timothy. As a first discipling instruction, he got timothy to be circumcised which is quiet difficult (Lot of pain & it will take a week to heal) after someone is grown up. But timothy was willing to do that as it could become a stumbling block for him to preach to the Jews. It is inspiring to see how this relationship grows from strength to strength.

Are you willing to obey your mentor's advice for your life & for the welfare of the kingdom??

In I Corinthians 4:21 Paul calls Timothy as his child .

1 Corinthians 4:21
That is why I sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach them everywhere in every church.

Paul was confident of Timothy's way of life that he would remind them about Paul's way of life.

In Romans 16:21 Paul takes it higher. He calls timothy as his fellow worker.

Romans 16:21
All these things would not have happened overnight. It happened because Timothy walked with Paul & allowed Paul to disciple him .Let’s see below some of the advices that Timothy Received from Paul

1 Timothy 1:18
This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare.

1 Timothy 5:2
Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.

1 Timothy 6:20
Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,”
